Back spindle has been re-designed to have full range of motion in X and Z axes, allowing access to a new backworking toolpost.
High precision built-in motor spindles from Mitsubishi deliver 10,000 rpm high speed and high torque throughout rpm range. The motor is an integral part of the spindle shaft and housing assembly. This allows spindle to rotate at higher speeds as a complete unit. The recently developed AC synchronous motor spindle offers higher efficiency, lower heat and higher torque.
With the introduction of SD-42 maximum bar capacity in this machine series has been increased to 42mm (1.65”) which is a breakthrough for Swiss turning.
Each of the 4 stations on the backworking toolpost can hold either live or fixed tool. The modular design presents the user with more setup flexibility from one job to another.
The SD models are designed for milling, drilling and engraving with live tools. The C-axis is programmable in 0.1 degree increments. C-axis can interpolate with other linear axes for complex and precise tool motion.
Disc brake clamping is a standard feature on both main and back spindles on SD-32/SD-42 to provide rigidity in drilling operation. Furthermore, two-stage brake clamping system is available as an option to enhance stability in milling operation.
The 2-channel control allows 2 independent toolpaths and provides machining on main and back spindles simultaneously. New high resolution LCD display and faster processing further increase operator productivity.
The addition of a new backworking toolpost increases maximum tool load from 26 to 31. Keeping more tools on the machine helps reduce setup time for future jobs and increases flexibility in coming up with different machining strategies.
Removing finished parts from SD-32/42 is easy as the lathe comes with parts catcher and conveyor.
SD-32/SD-42 can handle workpieces as long as 250mm (9.8”) without re-chucking. The wide tooling zone has the benefit of making tooling setup easier and faster, making it easy to discharge parts at the front even for long parts as well as making chip disposal easier.
With the rough material chucking option, a user can easily convert SD-32/SD-42 to run without the guide bushing. For parts with less overhang (machining length less than 3 times the bar diameter ), the rough material chucking option allows the main spindle to extend into the cutting area. This added capability lowers running costs by
1. leaving a shorter bar remnant and2. allowing the use of less expensive non-ground bar stock (as much as 0.1mm bar tolerance).
Changing from one configuration to another only takes minutes, allowing the user to choose to run the machine either with or without guide bushing as the needs change.
