Box-in-Box Design vs Conventional Single Column

HMC-500BP's Box-in-Box Construction is stable throughout.
The bottom of the box-in-box construction does not move. The X-axis movement relies on a balanced design with slideways on both top and bottom of our Box-in-Box construction. The X-axis is driven with two balls crews directly coupled to two FANUC servos simultaneously. The enhanced balance and extra rigidity ensure cutting accuracy under all conditions.
Single Column Design from the Competitors

Conventional single column slides on two guideways at the bottom. This design suffers from wobble at high speed.This unbalanced structure limits high speed moment and worse, it does not provide a rigid enough structure for heavy milling.

High rigidity can achieved with HMC-500BP's box-in-box design, avoiding deformation and machine resonance.
Single Column Suffers from Deflection

This design works against itself, the cutting force tend to tilt the column back under heavy cutting, reducing accuracy and tool life.

APC

Automatic pallet changer(APC) provides fast work-piece changing to reduce loading time and increases spindle utilization. A pallet change takes only 9 seconds.

High Precision Table Indexing System

The APC uses a system with 4 locator pins to ensure the pallet table is always clamped with high repeatability. Air blast is used to clean all 4 clamping surface contact areas.

X-axis Twin Servo Drive


Compared against a single-drive system, HMC-500BP's simultaneous twin servo drive for X-axis can increase the rapid traverse rate while ensuring vibration-free cutting conditions than otherwise possible. The balanced design also help minimize cutting vibration during Y-axis movement,so overall tool life is increased and machine precision is enhanced.

Spindle Structure
The spindle utilizes NN series bearings to maintain important attributes such as precision, speed and rigidity at the highest level. The spindle is built to absorb axial and radial loads, providing high precision and long service life.
HEIDENHAIN Linear Scales

Linear scale feedback from Heidenhain are fitted to X,Y,and Z axes forming a closed loop for the CNC control so the exact physical location of the axes is always known. Issues like thermal displacement are a thing of the past.The linear scales are fitted with a positive air unit protecting the scales from oil and dust pollution, increasing the life of the linear scales.

Roller Linear Guide Ways

All slideways have roller type re-circulating high precision linear guide ways. This design provides increased rigidity and increased speed in rapid traverse.

Pneumatic Counter Balance


Y-axis is fitted with 2 pneumatic cylinders to provide counter balance for the spindle structure, allowing axis movement without vibration at high speeds.

Ball Bar test

The Box-in-Box Design greatly contributes to accuracy in X-Y interpoloated movement as can be seen from the ball bar testing taken as a part of the machine QA process.

Tool Magazine (60 Tools)

The automatic tool changer (ATC) is located outside the machining area. It uses a double-arm design for fast tool changes. The tool tower accommodates 60 tool positions and can provide bidirectional rotation and random access.
X-axis & Y-axis Telescopic Covers

No detail is overlooked. The telescopic covers are oriented vertically to ensures easy chip flushing. The scissor-like mechanism of the telescopic covers help maintain proper distance between the slats, so the machine is protected from coolant and oil penetration.
